World Maritime Day

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) established the World Maritime Day to give marine ecosystems the role they deserve. “Connecting Ships, Ports and People” has been selected as the World Maritime Day theme for 2017.

We must not forget that maritime transport involves more than 80 per cent of the world trade around the globe. Furthermore, it facilitates transactions between different countries. For that reason its exploitation requires taking all necessary security and control measures to ensure that maritime and ports operations, national or international, are more efficient and less destructive avoiding pollution of the marine environment.

As we know, the seas are the origin of life and home of an immense biological wealth, so their care and protection is an obligation that we all must acquire. By strengthening the efficiency and safety of navigation in the development of maritime and port activities, as well as the protection of the marine environment, we will have a lesser impact on maritime life and promote a more efficient coexistence between man and nature. That, undoubtedly, will be for the benefit of all of us now and in the future.
