Antonio Caravaca
Born and raised in Algeciras, Antonio grew up within sight of one of the Mediterranean’s leading ports, the origin of his maritime vocation. He holds a Double Degree in Law and International Studies from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (bilingual programme, 2023) and completed the Master’s in Maritime Business and Law at Comillas Pontifical University – Spanish Maritime Institute (ICADE-IME, 2024), graduating with the second-highest academic record of the 40th cohort, and has since completed the Master’s in Legal Practice and Access to the Legal Profession at Valencian International University (2026).
His career began in the industry rather than in law. He joined Noatum Chartering as a Chartering Broker while still in the final year of his degree, advising leading industrial charterers in negotiating voyage, time charter and COA fixtures for bulk carriers of 1,000 to 70,000 DWT with European and Asian owners. Alongside this, he coordinated the operation of over 100 vessels and handled demurrage, off-hire, vessel and cargo damage and deadfreight claims, while also taking part in trade missions to Europe’s main shipping hubs. He then joined NuVu Underwriting as a Marine Underwriter, where he wrote and analysed a wide range of marine risks. This background has provided him with an integrated view of the shipping business, built from the inside across its commercial, operational and insurance dimensions, together with an international outlook that he now brings to his legal practice.
Languages have been a constant throughout his education. He completed an academic year in Charlotte, North Carolina (USA), and now works in English daily (C1), both in negotiation and in contractual and procedural drafting. The bilingual track of his degree also required certification in a second foreign language, which he studied for several years before attaining B2 level in French.
Since 2025 he has been part of AIYON’s team, where he assists lead counsel on maritime, transport and international commercial law matters: charterparties, cargo claims, collisions, demurrage, damage to vessels and port facilities, and bunker supply contracts and authorisations. He is also involved in advising exporters and importers on their operations and on the issues that arise from them. In addition, he takes part in administrative sanctioning proceedings before Harbour Master’s Offices and Port Authorities, in public tenders, concessions and administrative authorisations, and in liaising with shipowners, charterers, insurers and P&I Clubs on claims handling, the provision of security and the negotiation of settlement agreements.
Admission to the Spanish Bar pending (2026).
